Tamarac Renovation

Here is the kitchen before we started. We extended the counters and the island.	Lester contemplating what is ahead of him in this kitchen project.	My grandson, Kyle, helps take off wallpaper border.
Off came the old white tile.	Trying to locate the nails/screws so this piece can be taken out.

The first cabinet to come down.
Lester diligently removes piece by piece.	Up comes two layers of linoleum. I'm sure the bottom layer was an original layer. (Orange and yellow)
Patch work was in order.	Again, as I did in Las Vegas when we renovated that kitchen, I did dishes in the bathroom sink for two weeks waiting for the cabinets to come in and then another two weeks waiting for the granite to be put in.	Getting the first coat of paint on.
	Because we were extending the cabinets, Lester had to extend the piece above the cupboards.	Here is the little piece extended. Lester did a pretty good job.
Chris our installer starts putting the cabinets in.	THE CUPBOARDS GO IN!!	We get our new appliances back in place.
Once the cabinets are in, Lester starts laying the laminate flooring.	Lester had always wanted to lay laminate flooring...well, he got his chance. He really did a great job.
We closed Escrow on December 27, 2007, and on March 11, 2008, we completed the kitchen. What a good feeling that is for us. The only thing left in the kitchen is to put the dishwasher in and Lester will do that when we get back from Las Vegas.	Lighting goes up in the kitchen. Where these three pendant lights are hanging was where some cabinets were hanging. Lester had to drill holes and go up in the attic and run new wiring. He still continues to amaze me at all the stuff he knows how to do.
And finally the granite is put in.


AA little over a year and a half later - the backsplash is in!!




With the exception of the bathroom, we got everything done on the top floor which is what we wanted to get done before we went to Las Vegas to get our furniture. As I am writing this on March 15, 2008, (1 a.m. Saturday morning) and subsequently posting this page, we are at my sister's house in Mesquite, Nevada. Monday we go into Las Vegas, rent a U-Haul truck, load up our furniture and head back to Suncrest, WA (about 15 miles north of Spokane, WA where we are currently living.
