Saurday ¾ July 3, 2010 ¾
Wednesday ¾ October 29, 2008 ¾ Definitely feeling the urge to travel again, even for a short trip, we have decided to once again return to Pacific City, OR - to our favorite NACO Thousand Trails Preserve. We finished painting the outside of the house and decided to take a short trip before heading downstairs to start renovating the downstairs bathroom. Our first stop for diesel we paid $3.49 a gallon and the last place before getting to Pacific City was $3.23 a gallon. Definitely beats $4.99 a gallon back in Spokane a month ago. Seems like every time we take off, we forget something - this time it was the can opener. But that's OK - we stopped at our favorite store - "WALMART Super Center" and purchased one. I forgot to bring all of our music CDs, but had three in my old CD case that I brought - so we cruised on down the road at night listening to, among others, Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again", Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee", and Creedance Clearwater's "Suzi-Q" and "Proud Mary". Boy! Did that take us back in time. We stopped at a rest stop about 8:00 p.m. because we were tired and thought we might just go to bed early - well that didn't last! By 1:00 a.m., we were up traveling again and got to Pacific City preserve early in the morning. We were able to get one of the better spots up on top with a good view of the ocean and 50 amp service. It's nice when you can get up on the top level because you can hear the ocean all night long and don't hear the cars traveling on the scenic loop on the side of the preserve. Another one of the many little things I like about this place is all the little black rabbits that hang out here. After we pulled into our spot and got out, the little black rabbits came right up to us. And of course, you know what they're looking for! FOOD! So naturally, I had to go get some carrots out of the refrigerator to feed them. Tomorrow, I'll go out and get more pictures when it's a little clearer and/or when we go walking on the beach. I'm getting ready to wash the dishes and then head on up to the Club House so I can post these pictures. Stayed tuned as I will be posting more pictures of the places and things we're off to see within the next 18 days. - Shirley Hi Everyone! Well today is August 2, 2008, and we have been in Nine Mile Falls, WA living in Suncrest for approximately seven months. We’ve went through a winter with more snow that many who live here haven’t seen in years. I loved it! For those in Suncrest just now accessing my website, here is what’s been going on with the Haleys during the past four years. In May 2004, we left friends and family in Merced, CA and followed our daughter, Rebecca Mullin, husband Mike, and grandkids, Kyle and Carly to Las Vegas, NV where we lived for two years. We bought a fixer-upper just a mile from the Strip and renovated it during our two-year stay. Once we had been in our house for two years and not having to pay any sales tax when selling it, Lester was ready to get out of there. I came home from work one day and he already had contacted someone regarding the sale of our house. One month later, with the house sold, we took off in our 2003 33-foot Fleetwood Flair RV and headed north to Missoula, MT where we upgraded our RV to a 40-foot 2007 Fleetwood Discovery and took off as full-time RVers across the United States and Alaska for 1 ½ years. In May 2007, while we were traversing in and around Canada, Mike and Rebecca decided also that they did not like living in Las Vegas. They put their house on the market, packed up the kids and took off in their 2003 Layton 5th wheel trailer to Idaho and Washington cruising around to find out just where they might want to settle. In July 2007, while we were heading back from Alaska, they landed at the Spokane RV and Golf in Deer Park where we met up with them. We visited for about a week before we took off again traveling to the Oregon Coast, Arizona, Missouri and Arkansas. During this time they scouted around the area and soon settled in Nine Mile Falls in the wonderful community of Suncrest. Finally, in December 2007, we came off the road from full-timing and landed in the Mullin’s front yard with our RV in two feet of snow! This was definitely a first for me! Wendy Kennedy, a realtor and friend of our daughter Rebecca, had four homes lined up to show us on the second day after we arrived. We wanted in the Suncrest area close to Mike, Rebecca and the grandkids and little did we know we would get as close as we did. The fourth house Wendy showed us also was a fixer and had an acre, but had other things that we were looking for in a house. Since my son-in-law Mike is a mortgage consultant, he immediately went to work on our loan and on December 27, 2007, we closed Escrow – in 10 days. On that day, we pulled our RV into the front yard (we couldn’t get anywhere else because of the snow) and settled in at 11473 W. Tamarac Lane, Nine Mile Falls, WA in the community of Suncrest. During the seven months we’ve been here, we’ve renovated the kitchen, replaced doors and molding, painted, cleaned up the back yard, put in a garden for the grandkids, and did some landscaping. I’ve continued working on Mike and Rebecca’s Home News newsletter in connection with their business and have since become involved with updating the Lake Spokane Chamber of Commerce’s website posting community events, pictures of the Farmers Market and Suncrest Community Neighbor Day! Living in a small community definitely has its benefits and we love it here! – Shirley
